    The problem

    In 2022, S-team.law was publishing topical, high-quality articles regularly, but just not getting a lot of visits to the website. The website was also not appearing for searches related to ‘business law’ and ‘diplomatic law’, its two specialities. 

    SEO Audit

    I first carried out an SEO audit, and quickly identified some Technical SEO issues with their WordPress theme. The way the theme was built by the developers made it look good aesthetically, but it was hurting the website’s SEO, and stopping the site from ranking well on Google. 

    I quickly fixed these technical issues, and almost immediately the site’s SEO began to improve. 

    Competitor Research

    Next, I performed competitor research for S-team, identifying the SEO health of its top competitors. I showed S-team which keywords their competitors were ranking for, and which keywords were bringing the most traffic to their competitor’s sites. 

    This gave them the information they needed to directly compete with those competitors and understand their competitor’s SEO strengths and weaknesses. 

    Keyword Research

    I then performed keyword research to identify keywords related to S-team’s services that were low-competition and high-volume. With this information, S-team could create content for these keywords, instead of blindly creating content and hoping that their potential customers might be searching for it. 

    The Outcome

    Less than 1 year on, and the site is showing for 18 keywords/queries in position 1, compared to only showing for 1 keyword beforehand, and 130 keywords/queries in position 2, compared to just 5 beforehand.

    Moreover, the queries/keywords are now related to the company’s services and articles, while before the site was mainly showing up in the search results for “branded” queries.

    SEO can lead to more visitors to your website, more leads and more sales. These are things that are quite easy to measure. I can show you clearly how our SEO efforts have led to tangible results, and you’ll often see the results in more leads/sales.

    The cost of SEO varies, depending on your company, your clientelle, your industry, and what you want to achieve. There are many variables, but in my experience, the return on investment (ROI) is often much better than you would get from other digital marketing efforts. The value you build up from SEO doesn’t go away, and in fact, it inceases over time with no more effort. Conversely, with other marketing efforts, you have to continuously pump in money to get the same results. 

    SEO is often a long process, so the sooner you start the better. However, most of my clients see meaningful results within a couple of months. 

    SEO is also a continuous process; Think of SEO like marketing – if you want to sell a product or service, you have to keep doing it. Of course, once you are well established, and your initial efforts have paid off, you can reduce your efforts, sometimes quite dramatically. But you will always need to check in with your SEO to make sure you maintain the advantage you have built up. 

    Depending on your industry, SEO might not be the best way to spend your marketing budget. In fact, for some B2B companies, trade shows and real-world connections still play a primary role.
