Website development

A website should not just be a pretty digital business card

At its core, a website is supposed to serve a function, whether that is to capture leads, sell products or simply build trust. It should not be just a pretty digital business card.

What are the business objectives that the website should support and facilitate? I always start a project by asking these questions.

SEO is my second port-of-call. Without a good foundation of SEO research, including competitor research, a website development project is effectively flying blind.

Next comes design. Now that we have the foundation laid, we can have some fun, and make something beautiful!

During Development, I use the latest tools and years of experience to build a robust, fast website that is also easy for you to manage and update.

Finally, is Analytics tracking. I make sure to add analytics tracking to my client’s websites because if you don’t know how your website is performing and why, you won’t be able to improve, avoid pitfalls, and identify opportunites.

If this ethos speaks to you, then please get in touch.

Appleton Brooks

Web design & development (WordPress and Woocommerce)

Appleton Brooks is a high-end porcelain tile company based in Southern England.

I designed the website from a style guide provided by the client, which included logos, preferred colours and fonts.

I then built the website using WordPress and the Elementor page-builder.

For the e-commerce shop, I used the WooCommerce plugin to add the tiles as variable products. I also added a discount coupon and discounted shipping rates for orders over a certain price.

Urban Crop Solutions

WordPress redesign and transition to WP Bakery (WordPress)

Urban Crop Solutions is a turnkey indoor vertical farming solutions provider, based in Waregem, Belgium.

They reached out to me to help update the look and structure of their WordPress website. The site was looking old-fashioned, and needed a facelift. In addition, there was a lot of duplicate/redundant content, so the sitemap and content needed to be reduced and streamlined, and the sitemap updated/simplified.

Some pages were also hard-coded by the original developers, meaning staff could not make updates themselves.

I updated the look of the site, adding fresher, cleaner imagery, more whitespace, consistent typography and colours, and simple motion effects. I also re-created the hard-coded pages in WPBakery, allowing the staff to update the pages themselves.

Blood monkey gin

Website updates, adding e-commerce (Node.js and WordPress)

Blood Monkey Gin, is an Irish craft Gin, named after the act of “bleeding the monkey”, when 17th Century sailors drilled into the officers’ barrel to steal the liquor inside.

I was called upon to make some updates to the website, which included adding new e-commerce functionality in the form of a barCart checkout, as well as adding new pages and fixing some responsive styling issues. More recently I added a custom Google Map showing all of the places you can buy Blood Monkey Gin.

The site was built using NodeJs with a WordPress backend. I hadn’t worked with NodeJs or this structure of site before, so it was challenging, but I learned a lot!

BandZoek

Website design & development (php, mysql, javascript, html, css)

BandZoek is my own side-project; a simple, functional website for musicians in Belgium.

Being a musician myself, I saw the need for a networking website, were musicians can create profiles showcasing their music, post ads and find other musicians to collaborate with.

The whole website was built from scratch, and features an admin section where users can update the content and style of their profile, submit/edit ads, and message other users.

I kept the design very simple and functional, utilising Twitter Bootstrap and free image repository Unsplash.

The whole site was built using PHP, Javascript, HTML, Twitter Bootstrap, CSS and MySql.

Knockout Brewing

WordPress development with Woocommerce shop

Knockout brewing is a micro-brewery based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

I developed the website with WordPress and the Elementor page-builder from a design by Backbar Studios.

The site also has an e-commerce shop which I set up using the WooCommerce plugin.

Garden County Distillery

WordPress development

Garden County Distillery is a micro-brewery based in Wicklow, Ireland.

I developed the website with WordPress and the Elementor page-builder from a design by Backbar Studios

There were a number of elements that had to be adjusted with custom Javascript, such as the subtle movement of the images in the main carousel.
